Does your heart beat a bit faster when you are nervous or worried?
If you are like me, then your heart does get scared…
I don’t like to watch horror movies, because I never like scaring myself. As a child I watched the movie Return from the Living Dead, and those images of scary dead people struggling off their graves is still with me. Though, I remember them and laugh at how scared I was back then.
Sometimes in life, you might be going through a scary time. You feel like it is the worst thing that has ever happened in the world.
You might even wonder why it is not making the evening news. You become more discouraged when you notice; everyone else is going by just fine apart from you.
The sad thing about life is that even when your life is turning upside down. The sun still sets and rises. The moon still shines at night. The stars seem to twinkle brighter than usual. Life does go on, and you feel that no one is paying attention to your problems. You feel like no one sees how scared your heart is…
I realized that the heart does scare too easily and it’s your job to trick it. Even better, calm it down. Does your heart skip a beat every time you see a police officer, even if you have never committed any crime in your life? Somehow due to some trick of fate, I seem to come across a cop when, I don’t have a license with me.
I worry that the cop can see am driving without a license and I will have to bribe him. And I thankfully remember that cops don’t like taking bribes from girls. (Our traffic system here is still undergoing change). Mercifully, I am not flagged down. My heart stops beating as fast and I smile.
There are many instances in your life when you are worried and scared. That you should not have, and later you come to laugh at yourself and at your heart. I love those moments after the storm has passed. However, wouldn’t it be great to calm your heart and teach it how not to scare easily?
I use a method to keep worries at bay and it works like a charm. That I would love to share with you. Every Wednesday, I write everything that is worrying me, no matter how small. I review that list the next Wednesday and I am always shocked at what had scared me then.
For this method to be effective, you have to learn how to laugh at yourself. It’s funny how sometimes you can take life too seriously. I have to admit that some of my worries should never have been…
What you see today as the worst thing that has ever happened to you will not be so after a couple of days, weeks or even months. Trust me…
Whenever, you feel your heart beating a bit faster and you are scared. Tell your heart, “everything is going to be fine, all will be well”. Take your hand to your heart and listen to it. Let it know everything will be okay. Always remember, the stars shine brightest when it is dark.
Does your beautiful heart scare easily?
