High school sucks?

I always felt like I was living a double life. The school part and the extra-curricular part. At that time we had almost 8 compulsory subjects to learn. That would be examined after the four years of high-school.

More than half of these subjects were science oriented or some other technical stuff. We had no choice but to follow the system. It was horrific for me.

Chemistry and Mathematics were my worst subjects. What’s with all those numbers? Even now, I shudder when I remember those days in the chemistry lab. I swear my teacher was speaking Greek. To kill the boredom. I always carried a novel that I read under the desk.

Luckily, since I knew my weakness, I capitalized on my strengths..literature and humanities. Happy to report that my efforts averaged the unmentionable grades I got in the sciences and mathematics. Passing exams was kind of compulsory.

Nairobi Meditation Center

Life happens.

This month started with a challenge. I was determined to do random acts of kindness and blog post as often as possible. The plan was simple and it all started beautifully. (The Plan is Still On)

It’s so exciting to try out a new project as life conspires to help you. Allow me to digress,if you are a regular reader of this blog. You know that reading is my secret obsession. I love books. I love to read. Anyway, it was in one of my books Soul Power that I came across the Nairobi Meditation Center.

The author explained how she loved her visit to Nairobi. How the meditation center calmed her. And the impeccable timing she found herself in Nairobi. Like most of my friends, we didn’t know there was a meditation center in our country. Frankly, the thought had never crossed our minds in any way.

As I read the book, something in me was growing and tugging at my stomach. I had to find the meditation center. And the search commenced. Thankfully, one of my good friends managed to trace it. The center is literally by the road side, somewhere I have passed by countless times but have never even noticed it.

Winter, Lust and Wonder-The Review

When I finished reading the book” Winter, Lust and Wonder” I just had to call my mother.

I was deeply gripped with the urgency of just how short life is and just how many words I have left unspoken. That I am yet to say and may never even speak…

The book is a collection of poems that will make you laugh out loud, cry, think and most of all appreciate life. The poems are wonderfully written and very thought provoking.

I was especially touched by the poem “Blue”, a special tribute to his aging mother. James Mahoney shows so clearly just how fast time goes by and the reality that our loved ones will one day leave us behind in this world.

Worse, when we are not even ready. I had to call my mother just to hear her voice and hope that she too sticks out for a very long time to come.

Winter, Lust and Wonder is a tale of life as we experience it. The poems are courageous, honest and raging with vitality.

A 30 Day Challenge | Planet Media Cinemas

As you already know it’s never too late to do anything in this world.

I promised myself yesterday to call friends that I have not been returning calls to. As a way of making up for my bad habits. I will treat one of my friends’ Rose for a movie at Planet Media.

It’s a new local cinema at the amazing Westgate Mall. I am hoping she will forgive me, as regrettably this will not be the last time the missed call event will happen. Some habits are really hard to let go.

I also need to come up with other ways of being there for my friends. Giving one of the most precious things to me, time. This is definitely not a random act of kindness. However, I am on high alert for an opportunity to be there for an unsuspecting stranger.

This weekend be true and good to your friends, spend more time with them. Let’s do this together

Making Your Time Worthwhile For Life

Who do you give your most time to?

In the evening when you think back to your day. Where and with whom did you spend most of your time.

Who did you share most of your smiles, talk-time with?

It is estimated that most of us spend time in places we can be replaced in less than 3 days…at work or in money generating ventures. Anywhere away from our loved ones.

Bills have to be paid, and yes money has to be earned. But when this comes at the expense of the best thing in life, then in the end it won’t feel right.

The one place you will never be replaced is in your family. Yet, how much time do you spend with your beloved ones?

As you live your life, give your best time and best of everything to the place and people where you will never be replaced.

The Heart Scares Easily…

Does your heart beat a bit faster when you are nervous or worried?

If you are like me, then your heart does get scared…

I don’t like to watch horror movies, because I never like scaring myself. As a child I watched the movie Return from the Living Dead, and those images of scary dead people struggling off their graves is still with me. Though, I remember them and laugh at how scared I was back then.

Sometimes in life, you might be going through a scary time. You feel like it is the worst thing that has ever happened in the world.

You might even wonder why it is not making the evening news. You become more discouraged when you notice; everyone else is going by just fine apart from you.

The sad thing about life is that even when your life is turning upside down. The sun still sets and rises. The moon still shines at night. The stars seem to twinkle brighter than usual. Life does go on, and you feel that no one is paying attention to your problems. You feel like no one sees how scared your heart is… Continue reading “The Heart Scares Easily…” »

Think Like a Writer

Think, “I am a good writer” and you are.

Think, “I feel good” and you do.

Think, “I choose to be happy”, and you are.

Think, “I choose to think I’m rich,” and you will.

Think, “Things will get better”, and they do.

Think, “It’s a good world” and it is.

Tell your psyche to think the way you want to think.

My favorite writing affirmation,

“The world is a better place because I wrote this morning.”

Remember to always watch your thoughts

How To Relax In 5 Minutes

Are you relaxed as you read this? My guess is that you are not, but I may be wrong.

Living in a fast paced world like today comes with its own misgivings. You are always running around having something to do, and never stopping to even breathe. However, it is important to slow down and just relax.

Forget everything that is waiting for you and just concentrate on you for a while. You might say you do not have time to do that, and that’s why I want to show how to relax in just 5 minutes. This will definitely lift a lot of weight off your shoulders…literally.

Here is what you do;

1. Sit Comfortably

I am assuming you are seated as you read this, just let go, relax your shoulders. How are you feeling? Are you tense, nervous, edgy, notice how you feel for comparison purposes.

30 Days of Blogging Honesty | Day 1

Day 1 – The one thing that it seems like everyone else on the planet is into but I just cannot stand is…

SKINNY JEANS

I have never got around to understand the craze with the skinny jeans. I dislike them much and don’t have much love for trousers too.

I know the feminist movement was fighting for the right of women to wear pants, among other rights. And unfortunately, I feel beautiful dresses and skirts have been shunned.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind women wearing trousers. In fact I own a few, less than the fingers on my right hand. Which I bought under duress. I can’t help but to be turned off by skinny jeans of any kind.

The picture below shows plus sized women in skinny jeans. They look wonderful but you have to pair them with heels to get this elongated look. It’s so much work to make a skinny jeans work, especially when you heavy from the waist down. I feel this look is just too much…

Most of my friends don’t understand my aversion towards their beloved attire. I have tried to get them on my side and failed. They have also tried to make me love skinnies and failed too. And decided to agree to disagree…
